Show Host Scott Hayes Commentary

Well, that was interesting. Ian and I were both in hotels and had to endure hotel "high-speed" internet. I was at the Hilton in Sydney Australia where it was 3AM. Now I know why very few Australians attend the Live Audiences of The DB2Night Show - they are still partying at night clubs, or in bed! Anyways, after bucking up an extra $19.95 for upgraded "high speed" internet, I was able to get an internet connection suitable for running a webinar. Ian, sadly, was at a hotel in California (where it was 8am) where the WiFi was inadequate - he dialed in via phone about 5 minutes into his talk and then the audio was good.

And what's the point of this rant about free "high speed" WiFi? When you get something for "free", remember that you get what you pay for and your expectations should be suitably low.

You might also recall that I've previously shared that I am a victim of identity theft. Thank you, IRS, for sending my tax refund to a thief. Unless you live under a rock without a bank account, credit cards, and smart phone, you've probably received several data breach notifications in the last few years. You'll get free credit monitoring service for a year so that you can watch thieves drain your bank accounts, and, after the free monitoring year is up, well then you're on your own. The point is - if you're not a victim yet, odds are you will be soon. Pay attention to Ian's advice and do your best to implement smart security measures.

BONUS! Did you miss DB2 Data Security Part 1?

Today's presentation from Ian was part 2 of a two part series covering the four keys to DB2 Security. Ian gave Part 1 at IDUG in Dublin Ireland. Part 1 was recorded and published on IDUG's website. Ian and I both highly recommend that you watch the recording of Part 1 at www.idug.org/p/bl/et/blogaid=451. In part 1, Ian covers Encryption extensively. The presentation is amazing.
