Mainframe folks will still have to type out "Db2 for z/OS". Some IBM products, or solution offerings, have been renamed. What's new? Well, V11.1.2.2 is new, and there are plenty of goodies and enhancements in it. There's a new DSM release. There are new (free) editions of Db2. As if DB2 being renamed to Db2 isn't shocking enough, Melanie Stopfer aka @mstopfer1 announced her retirement from IbM today effective 31 July 2017 on Twitter:

While all the Db2 V11.1.2.2 news is exciting, I'm practically in tears over Melanie's retirement! Who will harass me at IDUG conferences? Well, probably plenty of you. But who will teach us upgrade best practices? Fortunately, Melanie has blessed us with many guest appearances on The DB2Night Show and her legacy as the queen of DB2 LUW will live on forever! Thank you, my queen, and enjoy your retirement while the rest of us struggle with "b" vs "B".

A rhetorical question - did IBM think through SEO search implications with this new renaming scheme? Search engines perform case insensitive searches and searches on "DB2", the new "Db2", or "db2" alone return OS platform ambiguous results. #FAIL
