DBI Software
Today's "DBI Commercial" was very educational, so don't fast forward through it! Previously on The DB2Night Show and at IDUG conferences (Orlando, Melbourne, and Barcelona 2013), Scott Hayes has presented on DB2 10.1 and the new Index Jump Scans. During our commercial, we compared the performance of DB2 V9.7 versus DB2 10.1 FP3 in a high volume OLTP e-commerce environment. A number of SQL statements in the 4,600+ statement workload benefited from Index Jump Scans. Pay attention! You'll see reduced Index Logical Read costs, lower CPU, and some faster response times.
Our #2 Job is giving you the documentation to prove it!

Show Host Scott Hayes Commentary
I think this was a fun and informative show. While it wasn't full of SQL and DB2 commands, you will find "the big picture" insights on large databases invaluable. Lee Goddard, formerly with IBM and now with DBI, shares years of experiences and sage wisdom in his presentation "17 Laws".
At IDUG Barcelona, during the DB2 Experts panel, someone in the room asked intriguing questions about what tools people used. When asked "Who uses db2pd?" all of the hands went up. When asked "Who uses db2top?" all of the hands went up. When asked "Who uses Data Studio for database administration?" no one raised their hand. With as much as IBM has invested in Data Studio, I thought this was surprising and unexpected, so we asked today's studio audience what tools they use. Here are the results:
"Free" DB2 tools used by the DB2 Community
Perhaps Data Studio is a little more popular in North America where the majority of our live audience was from. Maybe Europe just solidly favors command line. As for IBM OPM coming in with 0%, I'll just politely hold my tongue and let that information speak for itself.
