New Features in DBI pureFeat™ V6.3 Performance Management Suite for IBM DB2 LUW

Predictive Index Impact Analysis (PIIA)

The crowned jewel of this release is a DBI breakthrough called "Predictive Index Impact Analysis." You've likely dreamed about being able to do this type of analysis, and today, in V6.3, DBI makes your dreams come true! Let us explain, please. In a mouse click or two, you've isolated a substantial problem or "opportunity for improvement". In your next mouse click, you pass the troublesome SQL to DBI's Design Analysis. The IBM DB2 Design Advisor (db2advis) recommends several indexes that will give you a 99% cost reduction, and DBI's Advanced Index Benefit Analysis (introduced in V6.2) tells you that two of the indexes actually provide 98% of the cost savings (so you don't need to create the others)! By this point, you are excited! You have a solution in hand ready to solve a big problem! But, now you need to get permission to make the change. You have to follow the change control process. And the change control people loathe change!Change control wants to know the expected impacts of your intended changes. What benefits will come from creating the new indexes? What are the risks? Will the new indexes cause any harm? These are exactly the questions that Predictive Index Impact Analysis will answer!! IN JUST ONE MOUSE CLICK!! Simply highlight the indexes you would like to create and click "Impact Analysis" - and Brother-Panther® V6.3 will do all the hard work for you! Predictive Index Impact Analysis with determine ALL of the SQL that contribute I/O to the impacted tables ("the Impacting Workload") and analyze each SQL to see if it improves, degrades, or if its performance will be unchanged, and by how much. You will see a graphical summary report on one tab, and all of the details for every impacting SQL statement on another tab. Now you can complete your change control paperwork with confidence! You can tell management that not only will you fix the troublesome SQL you originally identified, but also that seven other statements improve too, several hundred SQL remain unchanged, and NO statements will degrade! Absolutely Brilliant!!

Many Customer Suggested Enhancements

The DBI tools are developed by DBAs for DBAs based on many years of real-world experience. In pureFeat 6.3, some of the new features originated from customer suggestions and usability feedback. Here's a sampling of some of the new customer inspired features:

A more graphical interface

We let our developers loose with a box of colorful and intuitive icons. Brother-Panther is prettier and faster to navigate.

Improved Object Drill Down Capability

Many customers use trend charts to isolate and drill down into problem timeframes. Once a timeframe of interest is determined, one button click would take the DBA to the SQL workload that was running during that timeframe (V6.2 and earlier). Beginning with V6.3, you can now drill down to details for any object (bufferpools, tablespaces, tables, applications, users, SQL...) during a chart's selected timeframe! Now you can get "the rest of the story", the details, in just ONE button click!

Explains

Hard to believe in this world that is striving to go "paperless", but some DBAs actually want to print out complex Explain plans. We've improved the printing of Explains to help you wallpaper your paperless office!

Add User Change Event

Did SQL change? At customer request, we added "SQL" to the types of changes that you can manually track outside of DBI's automatic change tracking.
